I've only been living here for about 3 years but most of the "bodegas" in Jersey City are a front for liquors stores. At least the ones in my area. They carry 20% food and grocery and then 80% alcohol.

I'm from the Bronx and your list is similar to mine execpt I would put Quarter waters at number one, say Winterfresh/ Juicy fruit because Winter fresh came out around '94. I would remove pickle in a bag, Charleston chew, pineapple soda, rap snack and replace them with Butter Crunch Cookies, 50 cents juices/soda, Hostess Cupcakes and Swiss Cake Rolls. Not necessarily in that order. I would also add Italian ices. The ones that came in the cup you had to scoop it out with a small flat wooden stick. :-)

Pineapple soda is the best!
The honey bun makes me think of Pill's "a big boy" which looks pretty good:

hmmm, I didn't have any of these growing up. Except the freezie pops but they were called Mr. Freeze.

However, the bodegas in gambia used to have these sandwich cookies with banana-flavoured filling. I remember they were so yummy but i'd hate to try them now. It would completely alter my good memories.

what about those plastic fruits filled with flavored sugar? I remember a classmate, no more then 7 years old, selling me some out of her backpack during recess. It was my first taste of the black market and banana flavored sugar. (great post, love remembering sugar straws and the things that really mattered to me back then: like cheez doodles)
