Subterranean artist, Poster Boy brandishes his exacto (or whatever the hell he uses to cut up subway ads) for a good cause with this piece protesting one of the MTA’s budget proposals, which threaten to cut free subway rides for NYC students.
According to the online petition linked to the photo on Flickr, about 550,000 students in New York City get free or discounted bus and subway passes under the once fully-funded state and city program.
Not too long ago, I remember reading on Gothamist that the problem is both the MTA, with it’s obvious budgeting issues, and the state/city failing to cough up the agreed upon money to cover the program. However, after consulting my local search engine I came upon this article, dated Jan. 07 2010, in which Assemblyman Richard Brodsky predicted that the MTA would not be cutting the program after all.
Ah well, it’s nice to see Poster Boy using his evil powers for the greater good. Or should that be his powers over evil for the greater good?
edit: Looks like the photo was taken way back in July. I guess it helped the cause.
